Ron Shalinsky started a small cheese and sandwich shop in Kansas City in 1983 and developed it into THE destination for gourmet food items in Kansas City. The store quickly became the place to find the largest selection of cheese in at least the four-state area. The Better Cheddar currently offers about 4,000 items. The NASFT (National Association of the Specialty Food Trade) honored The Better Cheddar in 2003 by recognizing it as one of the Top 5 Speciality Food Retailers in the United States.
