Truffles, creams, or nut clusters? Bittersweet or semisweet? My favorite is dark bittersweet chocolate truffles. The bitter the chocolate the better! No matter your preferences, Overland Park offers several chocolate specialty shops that pride themselves with producing high quality confections with a unique flair.
Andre’s Confiserie Suisse is a Swiss Confiserie that uses the best ingredients to produce traditional delights. At the time that Andre and Elsbeth Bollier came to the area in 1955, chocolatiers like this could only be found in Europe. Andre’s prepares their confections using pure butter, whipped cream, high quality chocolate, and natural flavorings. My favorite is the Grand Cru Truffles, I particularly enjoy the Pebbles truffle which is produced with premium Criollo cocoa beans from Madagascar. A second favorite is the Reserve Truffle; a chocolate shell with ganache that was Margarita infused.
Andre’s is popular for their specialized gifts including Kansas-themed items, graduation owls, Father’s Day tool boxes and more. I am eyeing the Rocher Wreath – made with milk or dark chocolate, roasted and caramelized slivered almonds and marzipan holly leaves and berries – to give as a clever unique holiday gift.
In addition to confections, Andre’s also has a Tea Room and serves gourmet lunch.
Did you know that Russell Stover Candies is the number-one boxed chocolate brand in America? They are headquartered in KC and have a retail location in Overland Park.
A little over 90 years ago Clara and Russell Stover began making candy in their home and opened their first store. Since then, they’ve been the token of love on Valentine’s Day and other special occasions, but you should think of them anytime you have a chocolate craving.
Have you tried their Pecan Delights? Melted caramel drizzled over pecans then drizzled with chocolate. Or the traditional Chocolate Caramel? Delicious butter cream caramel layered in chocolate. Both are scrumptious! In true artisan flair, they offer a unique chocolates cake line and special holiday figures with everything from turkeys for Thanksgiving to bunnies for Easter. These chocolate choices have taken my chocolate obsession to the next level.
