This February, as we’re surrounded by ads for greeting cards, jewelry and flowers, let’s recall the wise words of the modern poet, Miley Cyrus, when she insightfully stated, “I can love me better than you can.” February 13 is Galentine’s Day, a day for women to celebrate their friendships with their lady friends. Ladies, there’s no need for us to wait on another to treat us with love and affection … in a relationship or not, we can show love to ourselves and spend time with our closest friends.
You can better believe I’ll be celebrating with my lady friends and my daughter! Here are some of my favorite Galentine’s Day activities in Overland Park:
Where to Eat
A good day with girlfriends always starts with brunch and McLain’s Market is one of my favorites. I like to order a few items and share with my friends because I’m more of a savory person (think quiche, avocado toast or a breakfast burrito) but I can’t resist scratch-made pastries alongside locally-roasted Sway Coffee. Urban Egg is a Denver-based chain that you’ll only find in Overland Park. The Benedicts are fantastic alongside a mimosa.
Andre’s Confisserie Suisse has all the sweets your heart desires. Andre’s dark chocolate champagne bottle is a statement-making decadence and the dark chocolate hearts are perfect for scattering on your brunch table.
While we don’t really need an excuse for happy hour, Galentine’s Day is as good of an excuse as any to gather and sip! Try Veritas Whiskey and Wine or Wine Bunker. Veritas has an extensive dinner menu and Wine Bunker offers small plates. Treat yourself to fine dining at J. Gilbert’s Woodfired Steaks & Seafood or J. Alexander’s Restaurant.
What to do
Treat yourself to a luxurious manicure or pedicure at Paint Nail Bar at Hawthorne Plaza. Pick your color (pink or not) and relax in their soothing fume-free environment. Gel manicures last up to three weeks, so you’ll look polished for the whole month of February.
Pop next door to Talbots for some new accessories and pick up a cheeky card or art print to give a boost to a special woman in your life. The shop recently started carrying a selection from Gorjana and mod + jo, quality gold pieces perfect for daily wear.
Care for yourself with a massage or a yoga class followed by an infrared sauna session at Very Well KC. If you want the full spa experience, Sunlighten Day Spa is a great choice. Getting a blowout by Primp and Blow in Prairiefire is also a fun option!
