Christmas in Overland Park isn’t complete without a trip to the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Bundle up for an outdoor lighted luminary walk with special surprises along the way! I love that the Luminary Walk leads you through candlelit paths in the gardens with live music from carolers and quartets. Trees, buildings, and bridges are all part of the show, with thousands of lights aglow. Grab hot cocoa, free cider from local Boy Scout Troops, popcorn, or other treats while you meander through the Arboretum and enjoy all the colorful light displays!

My kids love the lighted Children’s Garden with holiday mini-trains. You can also pay a special visit to Santa in the Woodland Depot! The magical Gnome and Fairy Villages are sure to delight children of all ages. The Luminary Walk is a great family-friendly Christmas event in Overland Park. Make stops throughout the Luminary Walks for selfie stations with beautiful backdrops!

Free parking is available, and overflow parking is provided with a shuttle to the entrance. Plan to spend between 1-2 hours during your visit! Not looking for a family-friendly event? Try the Adults-Only Candlelight Stroll evenings at the Arboretum.

Pro Tip: The Luminary Walk at the Overland Park Arboretum is stroller and wheelchair-friendly. Pack gloves, hats, and dress in warm layers to stay comfortable during your visit.

Electric Glow  at the Arboretum is a limited electric lighting experience for those seeking a lower sensory experience with fewer crowds and none of the “extras.” Capacity will be significantly limited on these nights, making them ideal for wandering through the lighted gardens and studying the intricate gnome and fairy houses. Cafe Celeste will be open in LongHouse, selling hot beverages and snacks, as well as adult beverages.
