The struggle of finding a restaurant that is both kid-friendly and serves delicious food can be challenging because there are lots of factors that come in to play:
Is it noisy enough that your kids won’t be heard throughout the entire restaurant when they inevitably exclaim that they “need to go potty”? Will the adults have to choose from entrées that read “chicken fingers” or “kiddie burger”? And let’s hope there won’t be 30+ minutes of chaotic downtime while the food is prepared. If so, your phones better be fully charged and ready to stream videos. Get that WiFi password, too.
Combine all of these factors and you have yourself quite the conundrum. Check out our list below of the top family-friendly restaurants in Overland Park. This will help you take the guesswork out of finding a restaurant that is kid-friendly and parent approved.
Grimaldi’s – Head on down to Prairiefire and grab some pizza at Grimaldi’s with the kids. This is sure to be a hit with everyone as the kids are treated to a ball of dough to play with while the pizza bakes.
Shack – There is nothing that kids love more than coloring on things that they aren’t supposed to. Luckily at Shack, writing your name on the wall is strongly encouraged. Place your brunch order, then send the kids off to find that perfect spot on the wall to sign.
Spin! – Kids love ice cream (or anything that resembles ice cream). When the kids visit Spin!, they get a free kids-size gelato with their meal. And that meal is a pretty good deal too -- for about $5 kids get their choice of a pizza, macaroni & cheese or grilled cheese.
Chicken N Pickle -- Waffle PB&J!? Heck yeah! Chicken N Pickle has an awesome kids menu. But Chicken N Pickle is also pretty awesome at letting the kids run around with yard games, an ice rink in the winter, and pickleball, of course.
Houlihan's -- There are some restaurants that are just good with kids -- like bringing your kids a plate of snacks while you're still looking at the menu. Houlihan's serves traditional American comfort food and a very family-friendly ambience.
BD's Mongolian Grill -- There are no surprises at BD's Mongolian Grill. The chef cooks your stir fry in front of you and the kids. Your kids won't leave hungry. BD's has "Kids Nights" where kids 10 and under get unlimited salad and homemade soup bar plus one bowl of stir-fry for a discounted price!
Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen -- It's food just like home! Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen is truly a kid-friendly restaurant keeping family in mind. Cheddar's is very generous in their portions so even the big kids can order from the kids menu.
The Cheesecake Factory -- The Cheesecake Factory makes our list of best kid-friendly restaurants because the kid menu stays true to the Cheesecake Factory menu. The kids menu is pages long -- choose from anything from a classic kids burger to salmon, flatbreads and grilled cheese. Don't forget the cheesecake.
K-Macho's Mexican Grill -- Ah, Mexican food. K-Macho's is our kid-friendly pick because the kids meals are less than $5 and includes a drink. Kids can take their pick from quesadillas, tacos, or enchiladas. For the Mexican-cuisine shy kids, there are also classic American cuisine offered as well.
Strang Hall -- Bring your undecisive family to Strang Hall. Strang Hall is home to six chef-driven restaurants under one roof. And each kitchen has its own menu for kids. After the kids are full, let them loose on the Strang Hall lawn filled with yard games and Adirondack chairs. And Thompson Park isn't a far walk either.
Red Door Woodfired Grill -- We love Red Door for kids because the ambience is always family-friendly. The kids menu is filled with classic American food.
Rock N Brews -- Rock on, kids! Rock N Brews is kid-friendly, dog-friendly, and rocker-friendly. You'll find a kids menu, a dog menu, and a patio that is perfect to accommodate all -- even with a small kids play area.
