If America’s favorite pastime is baseball, then Kansas City’s second favorite pastime is tailgating. It’s time to turn up the heat at Kauffman Stadium. Bring the family. Make it a guys’ weekend. Or ladies’ weekend. Whatever you do, don’t bring a Cardinals fan. We’re kidding! Everyone is welcome at The K. No matter who you're cheering for, we prepared a list of your tailgate stops.
You’ll need: a small grill, grilling supplies, chairs, and sunscreen. Then leave the rest up to our list. We promise your tailgate will be a homerun.
Get your boys (and girls) in blue.
Blue looks good on you. Stock up on Royals gear before you head to Kauffman. You’ll find super soft t-shirts at Made in KC at Prairiefire or We Got Your Back Apparel in Downtown OP. The retro t-shirts are quirky with local typography designs. If you’re looking for officially licensed Royals gear, check out Rally House. Rally House will have everything from Royals tees and hats to Royals bottle openers and tailgate games such as cornhole. They even have a Mahomes Royals jersey. What can we say? Kansas City loves Kansas City.
Make a beer run.
Speaking of bottle openers – grab a couple four-packs of crowlers from Brew Lab. But be prepared for some big decisions at this favorite craft brewery. The beer menu is nearly as big as the food menu. All the beer is made in-house. If you order online, they’ll bring the beer to your cooler in your car. And if you really love their beer – come back later and brew with them. They offer beer-making classes too. Got your Brew Lab beer? Cool. Now grab some 6-packs of beer from Martin City in Mission Farms, too. Choose from over 16 types of craft beer. They have awesome pizza if you're the pull-up-to-the-tailgate-with-a-pizza-type.
Grab the meat.
Kansas City is the king of barbecue so when in Rome…no. When in Kansas City pack a small portable grill and grilling supplies. Then swing by Wiener Kitchen. They offer a variety of meat, but we highly recommend trying out a few of their sausages. And for those that really want to kick up the meat game, stop by Madison Meat & Deli. You’ll find local, grass-fed meat. They have every meat imaginable ready for the sizzling grill -- hot dogs, brats, sausage, hamburgers, steaks, roast, and even seafood. Don’t forget the buns!
And don’t forget the sides.
It’s time to level up from chips and salsa. You’ll be the grand slam of tailgates when you pack some Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue sides. Order the world-famous cheesy corn, barbecue beans, or onion rings for your tailgate. Psst…if you don’t want to cook meat, you can just buy it warmed and ready to go from Jack Stack.
