A Fitness Guru’s Guide to the Ultimate Wellness Trip in OP

healthbunhead-social-media-influencer-overland-parkMeet Jordan, the dancer and fitness instructor behind @healthybunhead. Let her positive vibes and insane energy lead you through her rejuvenating wellness visit through Overland Park.

I’m introducing you to all of my favorite wellness hotspots unique to Overland Park! If you are in town and trying to stay active, or even enjoying a self-care staycation, these recommendations are a must.

Morning | Arrival

The first thing I like to do when visiting a new city is to stock up on snacks so I have a food option that I don’t have to worry about. A great place to pick up a healthy meal or protein-filled snack is FitStyle Foods. They offer clean grab-and-go options that require only a microwave to enjoy. There is also a smoothie bar for a quick breakfast shake with several flavors and add-in options available. (Bonus fact: FitStyle Foods also provides meal prep for the Kansas City Chiefs!)

Workout Option #1

Nothing starts my morning on a positive note more than a spin class! If you are looking for a high energy and results-driven way to kick off your day, I would definitely try a Fusion Fly class at the Fusion Fitness Overland Park location. This is an intense indoor cycling class that’s a whole lot of fun. I love dancing on a bike to my favorite music and working up a serious sweat.

Lunch | McLain’s Market

One of my favorite healthy lunches is a grain bowl with added protein and veggies. I love the Quinoa Bowl at McLain’s Market OP! This healthy eatery and marketplace is a sister store to the popular McLain’s Bakery in KC. You can stay and enjoy a meal off of their ever-changing menu, or grab pastries and unique treats to go. (Pictured above is the Harvest Quinoa Bowl. Quinoa + chicken + bacon + veggies + white truffle oil. Too good!)

Workout Option #2

If group fitness is not necessarily your thing, the Indian Creek Trail is a beautiful way to get some exercise. The Overland Park portion of the trail stretches for 10 miles and is paved the entire way. Parking lots are available at the trail heads. Dogs are welcome, so leash your furry friends and bring them along!

Dinner | Unforked

I love the mission of Unforked: to support local farmers and provide yummy, healthy food for the community. They use clean ingredients to remix fast food favorites into a healthier alternative. Everything on this menu is a hit! (Trying the salsa is a MUST! This has to be the freshest mix I have ever tasted.) There is plenty of seating in Unforked and the environment is very family-friendly as well. (Pictured above is the Cheese Quesadilla. What can I say? I love the classics!)

Bonus | Shopping at FitWear Boutique

While you’re in town, you should treat yourself to some fresh new workout gear to hit the studio in. Located within Threshing Bee at PrairieFire is FitWear Boutique, a collection of popular activewear brands, such as Spiritual Gangster and Beyond Yoga. This is a curated collection of adorable looks for Pilates, Barre, and more. You can also shop fitness accessories and some street-to-studio looks. I chose a tank top from my favorite activewear line, Spiritual Gangster, as well as a scrunchie from the boutique; it’s my favorite accessory to keep my hair off of my neck while I teach Barre classes! You can lose yourself in the beautiful things located inside FitWear Boutique, so I recommend taking time to enjoy and shop around!

I love living in Overland Park while the wellness/fitness world is expanding. There are so many great resources popping up and my goal is to explore them all! When I’m not getting lost in the racks at FitWear Boutique or trying everything on the menu at Unforked, you can find me teaching classes at Barre3 located in the Brookside neighborhood.
