As soon as you walk into Scheels, you’re greeted by a beautiful aquarium. My kids love searching for Clownfish and Blue Tang, just like in their favorite movie. It’s a fun way to start your visit, and we always make sure to check out the tropical fish display.
Explore the Toy Section
Next, we like to take the escalator to the second floor to browse the toy section. Scheels boasts a fantastic selection of toys, including LEGO, stuffed animals, Melissa & Doug products, and more. It’s the perfect spot to find gifts and let your kids explore. We always see grandparents with grandkids selecting birthday gifts when we visit!
Head to the Arcade
After checking out the toys, head over to the brand-new arcade. The Super Mario Kart racing game is a favorite among my kids. With synced arcade games for multiplayer fun, it’s a great deal at just $1 per game. The arcade provides a lot of entertainment and is a top highlight of our visit for my kids.
Try the Shooting Gallery
For those interested in hunting, the shooting gallery is a must-visit. It is $1 per game, so it’s an affordable way to have fun. Using various shooters to blast the targets, this game is enjoyable for ages five and up.
Stop at the Taxidermy Display
On the top floor, Scheels features a taxidermy display. While I thought my kids might find it frightening, they ended up enjoying a game of iSpy with the beautiful creatures on display. We always make time for a photo op with the grizzly bear and see what other animals we can spot.
Shop for Gear and Apparel
Scheels in Overland Park offers an impressive range of brands. Whether you’re looking for a new water bottle from Stanley, Yeti, Hydrojug, or Brumate, or shopping for sporting equipment for football, baseball, soccer, and more, you’ll find it all here. They have apparel for the whole family with top brands like Nike, Under Armour, Carhartt, Columbia, and many more! Plus, all the outdoor adventuring gear you’d need like paddle boards, tents, bikes, and fishing poles. This was a great place to get my kids’ back-to-school sneakers during our recent family day out!
Dine at Ginna's Café
After some shopping and playtime, head down to Ginna’s Café for a bite to eat. They offer a kids' menu with pizza and other kid favorites, while adults can enjoy deli sandwiches, salads, and desserts. There’s also a wide selection of candy and treats, making it a perfect spot for a special outing.
Finish with a Ferris Wheel Ride
No visit to Scheels is complete without a ride on the indoor Ferris wheel. It’s an iconic feature of the store and a fun way to end your family day out. At only $1 per ride, it’s an affordable and exciting experience and one my kids always look forward to.
