LaMar’s Donuts and Coffee

LaMar’s Donuts wins the early bird award. It opens its doors at 4 AM. That’s so early that it could fit in extreme night owls’ itinerary too. LaMar’s Donuts produces 344,700 donuts per week. And with a 4 AM wake up call, you’ll definitely get the first pick in what is called the ultimate indulgence. Take your pick from cake donuts, glazed, bizmarks, knots, cream-filled, or fritters. Get at least a dozen. You have all morning.

Summer Moon Coffee

This Texas-based coffee shop found a home in Overland Park. Overland Park has plenty of eye-opening coffee shops, and Summer Moon Coffee opens the earliest at 6 AM. Summer Moon is where you will find wood-fired roasted coffee, served with a signature sweet cream called Moon Milk. The store is the perfect spot to start your day. Go to the back patio and find a seat while the rest of the world still sleeps.

Very Well KC

Start with your day in a meditative state of mind at Very Well KC. Choose from 5:30 AM yoga classes or 7 AM meditation classes. And you don’t need to be a local. Drop-ins are easy! Just head to their website to sign up. Very Well KC is more than a yoga studio. It’s a healing arts collective under one roof where you’ll also find a sauna, massage therapy, chiropractic care, and dry needling.

Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens

The early bird catches the worm. The early human catches a glimpse of a lot of birds at the Arboretum. Bring your cell phone. It’s one of the most picturesque spots in Kansas. Take advantage of the cooler morning temps to view more than 800 species of plants in one of several themed gardens. One of the most popular gardens is the Monet Garden. The garden is modeled after Monet’s famous garden in Giverny, France, and includes a gracefully arched bridge that’s painted in the signature Monet green.

The Shack

The most important meal of the day is breakfast. This is just a fact. And who doesn’t like breakfast food? The Shack is a St. Louis-based brunch spot. It is a favorite of locals so early birds have the advantage of being first in line. When you get there, read the whole menu – how can you not laugh at:  Starchy & Cluck, Ma...The Meatloaf, or Why the French Hate Us.

Deer Creek Golf Club

Get up with the mowers and get a round of golf in before the family wakes up! Deer Creek Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 course over 6,811 yards. Book that early tee time for near-perfect golf temps surrounded by the scenic woods and creeks. Morning tee times also allow you to avoid the crowds. Hey, no bachelor party ever books an early morning tee time. Deer Creek is known for being difficult while exceptionally beautiful. But maybe the difficult part is just for the night owls.
