Overland Park’s largest overall pool facility is the aquatic center at the Tomahawk Ridge Community Center. This outdoor facility opens May 26 and closes Sept. 2, 2024. The main pool features zero-depth entry, two slides, an inflatable play feature, and a 25-meter lap lane. A separate youth pool has a sand play area, a zero-depth wading pool, fountains, and a small slide. Patio areas, cabana-style shaded lounge seating, and picnic shelters surround the pools. There are locker rooms and a concession stand on site.

Young’s Pool

Another heated, city-operated outdoor pool, Young’s is open from May 26 through Aug. 6, 2024. It is one of the city’s largest, with an Olympic-size pool with three diving boards, a zero-depth entry pool, a youth pool with a whale slide and splash zone, and a separate area featuring a 31-foot-tall tower with two waterslides, one of which is a flume body slide with 200 feet of twists and turns. Young’s has shower facilities, concessions, and deck areas that offer seating, shade, and grassy areas.

Matt Ross Community Center

The Matt Ross Community Center's three indoor pools are open daily year-round and offer options for lap swimming, group exercise, relaxing in 102-degree spa water, and leisure swimming. The fun pool is zero-entry and heated and features an 18-foot-tall water slide with twists and turns, a 110-foot-long lazy river, fountains, and other water toys for kids. The facility has a fitness center, gym, locker rooms, and a three-story indoor playground.

Their Olympic-sized outdoor pool is typically open Memorial Day to Labor Day and features diving boards, family-friendly waterslides, and a toddler-specific Waterama play area with toys. There are plenty of lounge chairs around the pool, as well as shaded screens for sun protection. Poolside food and refreshments are available at the J Café, and family locker rooms and showers are available. An indoor pool is open year-round and is a huge draw for lap swimming and aqua fitness classes.

Splash Pads & More

Plan to play in one of the three free splash pads at Roe Park, Thompson Park, and Sapling Grove Park. The good news is that there's shade near each one, too! Overland Park splash pads typically operate May 1 through Sept. 30 and are open during the park's regular hours, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
