Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art
Overview
Located on the campus of Johnson County Community College, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art is one of the Midwest’s premier destinations for modern art.
A true hidden gem in Overland Park, the Nerman showcases 16 exhibitions each year with works from international, national, and regional artists.
With a strong focus on diversity and innovation, you’ll find paintings, photography, sculpture, works on paper, and digital media that speak to today’s world in unexpected ways.
The Nerman Museum also offers special events from gallery talks and artist lectures to family-friendly activities and community festivals, making the museum a creative space for learning and connection.
The museum opened in 2007 and is named for Jerome and Margaret Nerman and their son, Lewis, who are among the region's most prominent collectors of contemporary art.
Housed in the museum is the renowned Oppenheimer Collection, founded in 1992 by philanthropists Marti and Tony Oppenheimer. In 2004, the Oppenheimers began assembling a collection specifically destined for the new Nerman Museum. These works comprise the core of the museum’s permanent collection of more than 1,300 works
