Get ready, KC! Professional Pickleball Association debuts in America’s heartland
Overland Park’s Elite Tennis and Wellness will play host to PPA Tour stars in August
SALT LAKE CITY, UT (July 19, 2023) - The Carvana Professional Pickleball Association (PPA Tour) is bringing the sport’s top athletes to Kansas for the very first time when the Vulcan Kansas City Open is held at Elite Tennis and Wellness in Overland Park from August 24-27.
The “Golden Ticket” qualifier event guarantees those who win their division at the Vulcan Kansas City Open a confirmed spot in their respective bracket at the 2023 USA Pickleball National Championships, presented by the PPA Tour, at Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas in November.
The Vulcan Kansas City Open is also the second of four events on this season’s PPA Tour World Championship Series schedule with exclusive daily streaming coverage on Prime Video running from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Series began with the Acrytech Atlanta Open where No. 1 ranked Anna Leigh Waters earned her fifth of eight triple crowns this season with victories in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Earlier this year, Overland Park was named the nation’s “Most Pickleball Obsessed City.” The city is also home to over 75 pickleball courts at more than 12 facilities, including Chicken N Pickle and SERV, providing ample opportunities for locals to enjoy the sport and develop their respective games. Chicken N Pickle, which has seven locations operating nationwide and eight under development, was established in North Kansas City in 2016.
KC and the surrounding area is also home to a group of notable PPA Tour pros. Yana Grechkina, who played college tennis at the University of Missouri - Kansas City, and Ben Newell, reside in Kansas City, while Lucy Kovalova, Matt Wright, Jay Devilliers and Patrick Smith live in Wichita. Dylan Frazier should have his fair share of supporters at Elite Tennis and Wellness as well. He hails from Columbia, MO and currently attends the University of Missouri.
