Kansas City is undeniably a sports city. And while you’re in Overland Park, you’ll be a short drive away from a number of stadiums and sports-related attractions, giving you plenty of opportunities to get in the middle of the action.
A passionate, flourishing fan base and a state-of-the-art stadium have helped Kansas City earn a reputation as the “Soccer Capital of America.” On December 7, 2020 the National Women’s Soccer League awarded an expansion franchise to Kansas City. In the year following, world-class women’s soccer was brought to the Heartland, where KC Current completed its Inaugural Season in front of the world’s best sports fans.
The Current reside at Children’s Mercy Park with the Sporting KC in Kansas City, KS until they move to Downtown Kansas City, Missouri at Berkley Riverfront Park, the first soccer stadium purpose-built for a National Women’s Soccer League team in coming years. Groundbreaking for the new stadium began in October of 2022 with a grand opening slated for the 2024 season.
If you can’t make it to a game while in Overland Park, be sure to watch it at one of the local sports bars in OP!
