72 Hours in Overland Park with Your Dog
Overland Park is a perfect weekend getaway for dogs too.
Check out our guide for 72 hours in Overland Park with your furry sidekick!
Where To Stay
Plenty of Overland Park hotels offer pet-friendly accommodations. Embassy Suites, Sheraton, Marriott and Hyatt Place all offer easy access to I-435 in Central OP.
If your weekend plans revolve more around the South Overland Park corridor, check out the Residence Inn or DoubleTree. Or, click here for a comprehensive list of pet-friendly stays all across OP!
Day 1
Start your day with a walk on Indian Creek Trail, which offers multiple access points and miles of accessible paved path. Depending on which portion of the trail you tackle, you could surprise your pup with some playtime at Leawoof Dog Park! Leawoof has fenced-in leash-free zones for both big and small dogs.
After your walk, fuel up with some lunch on the patio at Martin City Brewing Company – you can’t beat their pizza! Or, head to the patio at Burg & Barrel near downtown Overland Park and enjoy one of their award-winning burgers.
A weekend away means dessert is always an option. If your lunch plans took you to downtown Overland Park, enjoy an afternoon slice of pie at The Upper Crust. Go ahead and purchase a pie to take home while you’re there – you’ll thank us later! There’s also The Golden Scoop, an ice cream shop doing more than serving up sweet treats. The Golden Scoop offers meaningful employment for individuals with developmental disabilities.
At this point, it’s time to think about dinner. Nick & Jake’s has been serving chef-driven dishes for 20 years. We also love Red Door Grill – the fried jalapeno chicken adds the perfect touch of heat to the classic favorite! Both have great patios for enjoying evening weather with your pup!
Day 2
Time to take our adventures to South Overland Park and visit the beloved Arboretum & Botanical Gardens! Covering 300 acres, the arboretum offers plenty of space to roam. (Note: dogs must be kept on leash and stay on the mulch paths.)
After exploring the arboretum, spend the rest of the day around Prairiefire! You can spend some time on the Prairiefire trails or walk to Corbin Park for a little pet-friendly shopping. Pop into Scheels for some shopping, or treat your furry friend to a spa service at Dogtopia.
Next, head over to Andy’s to end the day with frozen custard and a pup cup.
Day 3
Start your day with breakfast at Another Broken Egg Café, a dog-friendly, Southern-inspired serving up sweet and savory dishes. Try the classic chicken and waffles, or the lemon blueberry goat cheese pancakes for something different.
Keep the delicious vibes rolling and visit Land of Paws next. Land of Paws treats are fresh-baked using healthy and wholesome ingredients, and guaranteed to make your best furry pal smile.
Thomas S. Stoll Memorial Park is one of our favorites for enjoying some quality time with your pet. Seven of the park’s 80 acres are dedicated to an off-leash area for pups, and the scenic walking trail is perfect for getting in some steps and vitamin D. Talk of the Town is close by, too, and perfect for lunch on the patio before or after the park!
For your last night in town, Yaya’s Euro Bistro is one of our favorite dog-friendly dinner spots. The eclectic menu takes a global approach to cuisine with multiple cultural influences. We recommend picking from the amazing lineup of seafood options! If you’re craving classic Italian fare, Ricco’s Italian Bistro is the go-to in Overland Park, with everything from specialties like chicken spiedini, to oak wood-fired pizzas.
We love hosting your pups as much as we love hosting you! Let us know in the comments if you check out any of these spots or other dog-friendly places in Overland Park!
