Where to Play Pickleball in Overland Park
Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in America AND Overland Park happens to be the “Most Pickleball Obsessed City” in the nation.
With more than 75 courts available (and counting), there are plenty of places to join the fun in Overland Park! We’re breaking down some of the premier pickleball spots in OP.
Drop In For Open Play Pickleball
Part of what makes pickleball so popular is that it can be an individual or team sport. If you’re flying solo for the weekend or want to practice before playing with a group, open play is a great option. With open play, all you have to do is show up, and you’ll be added to a match with other players. Check out any of these Overland Park spots for open play!
SERV: SERV offers both indoor and outdoor courts, and open play hours vary from week to week. The cost of open play is between $5-15 per person, depending on the day. SERV also offers a 90-minute Intro to Pickleball Class for anyone wanting to learn the basics from a certified expert! It’s no sweat if you don’t have your own equipment - SERV has paddles and balls available. Open play and intro classes can be booked on the SERV website.
Chicken N Pickle: Chicken N Pickle also offers a variety of open play options ($5 per person Monday through Saturday, $4 for Senior Play on Sunday), with plenty of indoor and outdoor courts to choose from. Equipment is available if needed, and there are multiple programming options for a variety of ability levels, too! If you’re an intermediate player, Skills & Drills is a free clinic focused on teaching more advanced techniques. Blue Valley Recreation Center at Hilltop: For open play at the Blue Valley Hilltop rec center, a membership or $10 day pass is required. Check out the Open Court schedule on the Hilltop website, and be sure to bring your own paddle and ball (or balls can be purchased on-site if needed). Pickleball classes can also be booked for $15 - just call or visit the rec center!
Matt Ross Community Center: Just like Blue Valley Hilltop, you’ll need a membership or $10 day pass for open play at the Matt Ross Community Center. Their two full-court gymnasiums are available for open gym play and to rent when not in use for sports leagues or other events. Call ahead or stop in, and don’t forget to bring your own equipment!
A Team Sport
If you’re playing with a crew, renting a court at SERV, Chicken N Pickle, or Elite Tennis is the easiest way to guarantee court time. All three spots offer indoor and outdoor courts, ranging between $20-45 per hour depending on the day and time. SERV and Chicken N Pickle have food, drinks, amenities and outdoor games, while Elite has a courtside bar with a shaded social area. So no matter which one you choose, it’s easy to post up after court time and hang with your crew!
If you’re unable to reserve a court at SERV, Chicken N Pickle or Elite Tennis, check out a few local parks for court time. Young’s Park, Antioch Acres and Switzer Park all offer free play time on outdoor hard courts. These courts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, no reservation needed.
Where The Competition Heats Up
Because the pickleball hype is serious in Overland Park, our local go-to spots are set up to easily host larger team events and weekend tournaments! SERV and Chicken N Pickle can make catering to multiple teams a breeze, with expansive food and drink menus and extra amenities for family and friends tagging along. Additionally, facilities like Overland Park Racquet Club or Elite Tennis can host competitive pickleball events, some in partnership with professional pickleball entities, such as the World Pickleball Tour. If you’re making a weekend out of fierce pickleball play, there are plenty of hotel options near these facilities, making Overland Park the perfect place to play AND stay.
