Things to Do
Learn the History of Johnson County
The museum’s signature exhibit, Becoming Johnson County, takes you on a visual journey through the area's transformation from prairie town to booming suburbs. Walk through immersive spaces and see how local life evolved decade by decade, and how the past influences the way we live today.
See what "Modern" Meant in the '50s
Just beyond the main galleries, you’ll spot the 1950s All-Electric House: a fully furnished dream home that once captured the spirit of post-war optimism. From the pink-tiled bathroom to the chrome kitchen gadgets, it’s a time capsule that sparks curiosity, nostalgia, and maybe a “remember when?” or two.
Play, Pretend, and Learn at Kidscape
Perfect for families, Kidscape turns learning into a hands-on adventure where kids can experience different eras of local history. Explore environments from Johnson County’s past, including a covered wagon and homestead, the City Market, an early 1900’s classroom, and a replica of the first trolley car on William Strang’s Interurban Railway.
Everyone is welcome in KidScape, but it is best enjoyed by kids ages 1-8.
