Some days are best spent taking care of yourself and doing exactly what makes you happy. Overland Park is the perfect destination for a solo adventure, offering a variety of spots to explore, relax, and treat yourself. If you’re planning a solo day out, here’s the ideal itinerary to make the most of your time.
Start Your Morning Exploring Nature's Beauty
With the crisp fall air setting the tone, start your day outdoors at one of the city's most beautiful attractions: Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. It’s the perfect place to get lost in nature without actually getting lost!
The arboretum offers plenty of open space, lush gardens, and scenic trails, all accompanied by the peaceful sounds of nature. As a solo traveler, safety is key and this place is well-maintained and staffed, providing a sense of security as you wander through the flower gardens and wooded paths. It’s an ideal spot for some quiet reflection and fresh air to kick off your solo adventure.
Head Downtown & Shop Local
After soaking in the serenity of the outdoors, head over to Downtown Overland Park for the Farmer’s Market. There’s something special about strolling through local markets alone. You can take your time, explore every vendor, and pick out your personal favorites.
You’ll discover gems like Bramble & Rose Tea Co. for unique tea blends, Luca Bagel for a fresh snack, and local flower vendors offering beautiful bouquets to brighten your day. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, don’t miss Kate Smith Soirée, a charming bakery where the pastries are as delicious as they are Instagram-worthy.
Spoil Yourself With Some Retail Therapy
Next, it’s time to spoil yourself – whether through some light shopping or pampering with a beauty service. I went the retail therapy route and headed over to Prairefire because they had plenty of options to shop.
Threshing Bee is a must-visit for boutique lovers, housing multiple local shops under one roof. If you want a souvenir that shows off your KC pride, head to Made in Kansas City for unique, locally crafted items. I wrapped up my shopping trip at FitWear Boutique, where I discovered fun activewear and even got creative at their charm bar. This was my first trip in, but it definitely won’t be my last!
Whether you're treating yourself to something new or simply window shopping, this part of the day is all about indulging in whatever makes you feel good.
Take Yourself Out To Dinner
As your solo day of adventure winds down, grab some takeout from one of Overland Park’s amazing eateries. I swung by Tiki Taco where I ordered two tacos, chips and salsa, and street corn. The carne asada taco was the highlight of my meal – fresh, flavorful, and oh-so-satisfying. Bring your food back to the hotel, curl up, and savor the deliciousness all by yourself.
If you’re in the mood to eat at the restaurant, consider trying Buffalo State Pizza Co.'s mouthwatering mega slices or Q39's world-famous BBQ.
My solo day exploring Overland Park was exactly what I needed – relaxing, rejuvenating, and full of places that bring me joy. Sometimes the best days are those spent alone, where you can focus entirely on yourself, exploring at your own pace. Remember, every solo trip is an opportunity to reconnect with yourself, and this city has plenty of places to help you do just that.
If you're in need of some self-care and adventure, I hope this itinerary inspires you to create your own perfect solo day out in Overland Park.
