Tacos are more than just a meal – they're a whole culinary experience, especially in Overland Park. Local restaurants, taquerias and even food trucks are redefining flavor one tortilla at a time. Here are five must-try taco spots in Overland Park that promise to deliver unforgettable flavors.
Tiki Taco is one of the newer Mexican joints in Overland Park, opening in February of 2024 as the third location in the Kansas City Metro. Their retro aesthetic and a menu full of tacos under $5 makes it a great place to visit with friends and family. My personal pick? The Thai Fried Chicken Taco, topped with cabbage and jalapeño slaw, crema, and a Thai chili sauce. Not feeling savory? You HAVE to try the Tiki Choco Taco... there's nothing quite like it!
If you’re looking for some authentic Mexican food, look no further than La Nueva Taqueria. Their street tacos under $3, salsa bar, churros and flan will have you coming back for more. My TOP recommendation here would indeed be the street tacos. You can choose from a variety of meats including al pastor, chorizo, asada, and even some meats you won't find in KC everyday like beef tongue and beef cheek.
The best part about tacos is that they can be enjoyed all day long in Overland Park, starting with breakfast at Taco Naco. Their bold flavors range from their breakfast burritos to tostadas to my personal favorite, the Brisket Quesabirria Tacos served with a au jus dipping sauce. They also serve a Pozole Soup and Quesabirria Ramen that would be perfect to enjoy on a chilly fall day.
Okay, so... Unforked might not be the first place you think of when you're craving tacos, but their 12 different tacos will be enough to convince you to try it out. One of my favorites is the Barking Pig, a gluten-free taco with crispy carnitas tossed in shagbark bacon glaze (yum!) and topped with queso fresco. The best part about this place is you can always finish off your meal with a delicious concrete. Since I visited in the fall, I had to try out their Pumpkin Pie seasonal flavor.
Red Kitchen KC in Downtown Overland Park is known for their authentic Mexican cuisine with Owner and Head Chef Alejandra de la Fuente bringing her own flair. She offers everything from classic carnitas to innovative vegan tacos. Each taco is crafted with fresh, locally sourced ingredients too! Don’t forget to try the smoky salsa – it’s a crowd favorite. This is a great spot to hit on an autumn day because their entire storefront opens up via a garage door, offering an opportunity to enjoy the cool weather!
