Spectator Sports near Overland Park

Kansas City is undeniably a sports city. And while you’re in Overland Park, you’ll be a short drive away from a number of stadiums and sports-related attractions, giving you plenty of opportunities to get in the middle of the action.

If your Overland Park visit falls during football season, make plans to attend a Kansas City Chiefs game and see why Arrowhead Stadium holds the title as the loudest outdoor stadium in the NFL (and don’t forget to tailgate!). Kauffman Stadium, the home of the Kansas City Royals, is next door, creating Truman Sports Complex, one of the first landmarks that visitors see as they drive into Kansas City on Interstate 70.

A passionate, flourishing fan base and a state-of-the-art stadium have helped Kansas City earn a reputation as the Soccer Capital of America. Located in nearby Kansas City, Kan., Children’s Mercy Park is the home of Sporting Kansas City, the city’s MLS team. If you’re feeling the need for speed, Kansas Speedway is nearby, which hosts two NASCAR race weekends a year, in addition to other racing and live events.

Other area sports highlights include minor league baseball at Legends Field with the Kansas City Monarchs, roller derby, Missouri Mavericks pro hockey at the Cable Dahmer Arena and Kansas City Current, women’s professional soccer. Or get an up-close look at your favorite sports with a tour through the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in downtown Kansas City’s historic 18th and Vine Jazz District or the College Basketball Experience, your chance to step behind the sports desk, test your on-court skills and learn more about college basketball history and highlights.

Start your engines, take the field, ring the bell, hit the ice, play ball—whatever sport you love, Kansas City has it.
