What could be better than a perfect playground day in Overland Park with friends? Here's an idea: a delicious coffee to perk up that playdate!

Check out my go-to guide for the best coffee and playground combinations in OP from a latte-obsessed mom of two.

Strang Park & Bear Necessities Coffee Bar

9879 W 88th Terr, Overland Park, KS 66212 → 9609 W 87th St, Overland Park, KS 66212

Entering Strang Park, you're greeted with vibrant colors that set the tone for the fun-filled experience ahead. Kids flock to the playground's in-ground trampolines, eye-catching mural, and towering 30-foot slide, while parents love watching their children play at the whimsical (and pretend) Farmers’ Market. With additional attractions like the nature play area, sensory tunnel, climbing nets and various games, including cornhole, chess and checkers, there's something for everyone.

Just around the corner is Bear Necessities Coffee Bar, a locally-owned coffee shop with a spacious patio, delicious coffee, baked goodies and breakfast burritos. It takes less than 10 minutes to walk to Strang Park from here, which makes for the perfect afternoon stroll. If you stop by, be sure to try their seasonal scones and lattes with custom in-house syrups.

Roe Park & McLain's Market

10400 Roe Ave, Overland Park, KS 66207 → 10695 Roe Ave, Overland Park, KS 66207

It's double the playgrounds and double the fun at Roe Park! Their main playground is large and fun with a lot of climbing features, slides, a toddler play zone and a nature play area. The 40-acre park has lots of green space, a walking path and splash pad. Whenever we visit, my kids love to explore tall “spider-web” climbing features and play tag with friends.

McLain's Market Overland Park is just minutes down the street from Roe Park and is the perfect place to grab coffee, breakfast or lunch. You can enjoy your sweet treats and drinks inside, outside on the patio, or use the drive through and bring it with you to the playground. My pro tip? Don't leave without trying their delicious pastries.

Thompson Park & Homer's Coffee House

8045 Santa Fe Dr, Overland Park, KS 66204 → 7126 W 80th St, Overland Park, KS 66204

We're heading downtown for our last playground and coffee pairing! Thompson Park is a beautiful spot for family-fun in the heart of downtown Overland Park. You can find swings, musical elements, a tunnel to climb through, a large climbing web, a small splash pad and lots of green space for gathering or meeting friends. They even have a coworking space with charging stations for all the working parents out there!

Continue strolling downtown and you'll find Homer's Coffee House, a roomy and cozy coffee shop that's been around for over 20 years! The barista suggested I try the Angel Caramello and I am so glad I took their advice! This sweet drink would pair beautifully with a blueberry muffin, cinnamon roll cake or espresso brownie. Plus, you can bring all of your freshly-baked and brewed goodies back to Thompson Park to enjoy breakfast al fresco.
